Energy Saving Tips

Simple ways to save energy and money

Living Room

  • You can potentially save upto 10% on your heating and cooling costs by installing a "programmable thermostat" and set the temperature between 20 degrees (summer) and 26 degrees (winter).
  • Make good use of your blinds and curtains. Keep them closed in summer, to keep your home cool and block out the sun. Do exactly the opposite during winter to heat your home, naturally.
  • Make it a habit to turn off all switches and lights when leaving a room. Use energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) or CFL (compact fluorescent lighting) or halogens avoiding old-fashioned incandescents. For lighting up large spaces, use tubes with motion sensors to reduce consumption.
  • Try to connect all electronic gadgets like tvs, dvd players, computers, stereos and game consoles from a single source like a "power board", which can help turn off multiple items at once. Many appliances tend to drain power even on standby.
  • Clean or change filters regularly. Clogged or choked filters put pressure on your hardware and prevent optimum performance. Preferably, use a reverse cycle- air-conditioning system – both cools and heats.
  • Insulate all areas properly. Seal leaks, gaps, and cracks on walls, ceilings and floors and draft proof your home to potentially save up to 20% on your heating and cooling bills for a more comfortable home.
  • Set-up and follow a strict maintenance schedule. Good hardware always saves you more. Replace old gadgets with newer cost effective versions – which use upto 70%less energy than their older cousins.
  • Look for the energy star label, the government's symbol of energy efficiency, on a wide range of consumer products to potentially save up to 30% on running costs.

We recommend you switch over to a carbon neutral energy provider to further reduce costs and negate damages to the environment.Using natural gas (if available in your neighbourhood) is a very good option
